  • Take One by Tim Roseborough

The website for Take One: A Gifting Performance by Tim Roseborough is live. Please explore Roseborough’s site and share your thoughts about his logographic system. It was an honor to have my Shotgun Review featured in Art Practical’s, Best of Year Two, issue. You can read more here.

EDICOLA OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE This March 15th, 2012, marks the opening of a reinvention of the traditional newsstand. Colpa Press will partner with the Central Market Street Revitalization Program to create a venue for artist books, prints, and albums, on the corner of Market and 6th Street. • What if your entire body could run a program? Looking at the Body, Senses, and Imagination in relation to Creative Coding

With a multitude of writing projects going on simultaneously, I didn’t want this one to get left on the virtual stack under the virtual paperweight. I’m hoping to perhaps lengthen this piece and bring in some research. For now, I’ll share it with the world and for anyone interested in reading it. It’s about the work of Nik Hanselmann now based in New York. He graduated with his MFA in Digital and New Media Studies from UC Santa Cruz and received his BA from UC Berkeley…

  • The Limitations of 140 Characters & Our Communication Culture | In Other Words exhibition @ Intersection for the Arts

I asked a dear friend about her attention span. She was candid in sharing that if 200 characters don’t entice her, you’ve lost her. She is an intelligent woman and I completely trust her opinion. Now, that’s not a lot characters to lure someone in. Yet, it speaks to the culture we live in. Granted, this post (originally posted to zero1‘s blog) is pretty lengthy but the show resonated with me because words are important to me (duh!). Being a writer…

When I’m not thinking about the afterlife, I’m thinking about love. This is true. Currently live blogging at Wire + Nail Gallery for Carissa Potter’s opening, People I’ve Loved. One of my favorite artists.

  • Want to know what Communication Overload sounds like? Listen to this!

Matt Ganucheau does it again. Yet another awesome recommendation. This time, in the form of a musical short film that may be all too familiar to folks watching this now. Please feel free to leave a comment about how this resonates with you OR how it doesn’t. I’m curious and would love to hear what you think.

  • Chance Operations

A couple of weeks ago, I attended an Upgrade! SF meeting filled with artists, writers, theorists, and curators within the new media arts community. The evening was filled with conversation around Chance Operations and stochastic methods related to the art making process. Luke Ogrydziak, principal architect at Ogrydziak / Prillinger Architects gave a brief talk around chance in the architecture and design processes. His presentation touched heavily on the idea of indeterminable factors affecting a final outcome or product. For instance, some of the objects constructed through C++…

  • Get Lucky: The Culture of Chance @ SOMArts Cultural Center – Opening Night

We create a community of multi-disciplinary artists who fuse eastern philosophies and practices in their work. This new community engages musicians, architects, visual artists, sculptors, videographers, and others in a conversation and exchange that evokes the spirit of John Cage and his impact on avant-garde art that permeates and vibrates throughout the bay area. ~ Hanna Ragev, Co-Curator Mathematicians, scientists, and artists are all driven by uncertainty. Chance operations might entail risk but it also lends itself well towards calculated steps.…

Then, Saturday, Disrupture at icTus gallery in the Mission District of San Francisco. Check out the shows if you are able.
